5 Spectacular Outdoor Activities You Should Try With Your Family
Getting outdoors is healthy and helps burn off extra energy. It’s a fantastic way to spend the afternoon, but those who are bored with just playing in the backyard might want to look for something fun they can do with the whole family. There are tons of different activities that can be a lot of fun for families with younger kids to help them enjoy the outdoors and have a ton of fun.
Try Out Paddleboarding
Paddleboarding isn’t as hard as it looks. It just takes a bit of balance to do and it’s possible to explore all sorts of different places by water. The younger kids can share a paddleboard with their parents, while older ones can do it on their own. Check out local paddleboard rentals to find the perfect place to go and don’t forget to be prepared with a lifejacket for the kids, sunscreen for all, and other safety supplies that may be needed.
Go On a Scavenger Hunt
Go for a hike with the kids or look around the backyard, armed with a list of things to find. With the youngest of kids, the list can include things like brown leaves, small rocks, or other items that are easy to find. For kids who are a little bit older, the scavenger hunt can get a little more challenging. When hiking somewhere, teach the kids how to look with their eyes, take nothing but photos, and leave nothing but footprints.
Try Painting Outdoors
Outdoor painting can be a lot of fun. Try traditional painting methods, like watercolor, using the view outside as inspiration. Or, try other fun activities like painting on rocks or painting with water. Painting with water is a ton of fun for the littlest kids. Simply give them a cup or bucket of water and a paintbrush, then let them paint anywhere outside. For older kids, try painting unique and fun designs on rocks, then hiding them around town for others to find and enjoy.
Create a Special Garden
It may be fun to try to create a garden in the backyard that everyone can enjoy. A creative way to make a special garden is by creating a pizza garden. Kids love pizza, so they’ll enjoy making this garden. The garden is typically made in a circle shape, just like a pizza, and includes many ingredients needed to make pizza, like tomatoes. Once the vegetables are growing, it’s possible to pick them from the garden, take them inside, and make a fresh, homemade pizza.
Try Stargazing
Gather up pillows, blankets, and snacks and head outside instead of going to bed. Relax in the yard and look up at the stars. Try to find different constellations or makeup stories about the stars and the shapes they make. Kids will love looking for the first star and watching them twinkle overhead.
Take the time to try out each of these activities to see what the kids enjoy. While some of them do require a bit of planning or can take time to do, others can be done spur of the moment when a little extra family time is needed or the kids need to burn off their energy at the end of the day. Try each of them to find your family’s new favorite activities.
